Wooden Pod aka Hen House with electricity, kettle & fridge. Suitable for two adults and two children.
These Glamping Pods, renamed Hen Houses after the traditional Hen Arks that used to be a feature of Cumbrian farms, are ideal for guests who enjoy camping but perhaps don't want to give up the basic necessities.
Both Hen Houses sleep up to 4 guests using three fixed beds with new comfortable mattresses. By adding the centre base, the bed space increases to four beds, ideal for families. Each Hen House is hooked up to mains electricity and they both have a small fridge, a kettle, tea & coffee making facilities. An electric wall-mounted heater is also available for those chillier nights.
Situated at the top end of a large field, the Hen Houses have superb views over the Lyvenette Valley and it is particularly popular for the dark skies at night. Guests have a firepit available to use, however, a fire pit pack of wood, kindling, matches etc. must be purchased when you arrive as should disposable BBQ's if you wish to BBQ during your stay. There are plenty of walks leading from the Farm into the valley and along either way following the river. The nearby village of Crosby Ravensworth has the Butchers Arms which is a community-owned pub offering great food and real ales. Well worth visiting if you don't fancy cooking.
In the morning, why not have a Farmer Mike's Big Breakfast Bap filled with Cumberland sausage and Egg and a flask of coffee delivered to your Hen House each morning at £5.00 per bap. These can be ordered directly with the owner the night before.
The newly-built shared facilities along the path provide guests with hot showers and loos as well as a kitchen area with washing up facilities, microwave and a general chill-out area. Parking is available for cars nearby the Hen Houses so it is easy to transfer your luggage.
Electricity, tea & coffee, heating, hot showers and loos.
Things to Note:
- Bedding is not provided so please bring sleeping bags and pillows.
- The path to the facilities is made with stone chippings so it advisable to bring flip-flops or easy slip-on shoes should you need to pop to the loo.
- Disposable BBQ's must be purchased from the owners when you arrive.
- One dog per Hen House is charged at £5.00 per stay.
Easy to reach from the M6 Motorway, the Hen HOuses are situated on a large sheep-farm where guests can enjoy the peacefulness of the Lyvenette Valley as well as the tremendous views. Follow one of the many walks leading from the farm or head to the local pub, just a 10-minute walk along the river.
The location is an ideal base to explore the Eastern Fells or the Westmorland Dales. Rheged activity centre in Penrith is a 15-minute drive and Ullswater is around 10 miles away from where you can jump on one of the boats to explore the area.
