The Mount is a home full of soul and Edwardian charm. Built in 1906 during the Arts and Crafts period, for which Portinscale was a well-known centre, guests will enjoy the relaxed, arty feel to this grand house.

There are many delightful period features in the house which has been lovingly restored whilst introducing modern luxuries such as hotel-standard showers in the bedroom en-suites. The unique style provides a good home for the eclectic collection of art that has been gathered from the different places where the owners have lived around the world, from Brighton and London to Fiji and Kenya.

The Mount primarily operates as an award-winning Bed & Breakfast, however, during certain times of the year, the owners offer their stunning house for self-catering holidays including the summer, Easter and Christmas / New Year weeks.

With the capacity to sleep 10 in five bedrooms, it is the perfect house for a large family or a group of friends to stay in a beautiful Lakeland village next to Keswick. Guests will have the exclusive use of the house including the lounge, dining room and kitchen (with its Aga and conventional ovens).

King-sized bed in our luxury-feel room, with side-views out to Derwent Water and the nearby fells. Ensuite shower room. On the first floor.

King-sized bed and a generous bathroom – with a bath and a separate shower. There is also a lovely view of Skiddaw. On the first floor.

Room 4 – Super-King
Super-king bed with views out over to Derwent Water and fells beyond. Good-sized ensuite shower room. On the second floor.

Room 5 – King
King-sized bed in a cosy room with fabulous views out to Skiddaw. Compact en-suite shower room. On the second floor.

Very comfortable lounge with views to the front of the property. Guests have use of the flat-screen TV, with HDMI ports and BluRay player. A music system with 3.5mm audio lead allows guests to connect their iPods, phones etc to play their music.

Dining Room
Light, bright room, situated next door to the kitchen, with a large dining room table with seating for 12 guests. Table dressings and provided for guests.

The Kitchen
The heart of the house features a beautiful Gas Aga* alongside a modern 4-plate induction hob and under counter duel oven. A dishwasher is provided next to the sink, and cupboard provides all you will need to become the next-best Master Chef. In the centre of the room is a casual dining area with a table seating 4 guests. Leading off the kitchen is the utility room with a large top-loader washing machine as well as a tumble dryer.
*Please note that the Aga is switched off during self-catering hire periods, however, guests who are comfortable using an Aga, may request its use during the booking process for a small additional fee.

Outside Space:

To the front aspect is a well-maintained flower garden with a path leading to the front door. To the side is a well-maintained garden with outside bench seating, which can be extended to accommodate 12 people. To the rear is the large private carpark.

Wifi is available for guests throughout the house and free parking is to the rear of the property. A travel cot and highchair are available free of charge if required. Up to two dogs are permitted at a cost of £30 per dog.

Portinscale, Keswick is a delightful area for a Lake District holiday. The village is very close to Derwentwater (great for gentle lakeside walks and boating) and a short walk to Keswick, the centre of the beautiful Northern part of the Lake District. So it is easy to reach all the shops, cafes and theatre of Keswick, easy to get onto some good Lake District walks – while enjoying the peace and charm of a Lakeland village – with some great cafes and pub minutes away.

Don’t fancy cooking – there is an array of restaurants and pubs in the nearby Keswick, a fabulous gastro pub 10 minutes away called The Pheasant Inn – and in the village, there is an excellent café The Chalet and a good local pub, the Farmer’s Arms.

Wherever you look there are great views, Portinscale is a lovely spot for enjoying all the Lakes have to offer – walks, views, cycling, canoeing, cream-teas and good ales.

  • A 30% deposit is required when booking in order to confirm your booking. The balance will be due no later than 60 days prior to arrival. 
  • Bookings made within 60 days of arrival will require full payment at the time of booking.
