Nannycroft Cottage is a delightful three-bedroom holiday home in the charming village of Beckermet on the West Coast of Cumbria that has been recently refurbished and offers a tranquil getaway for friends and families in this picturesque corner of England.

The area has a rich history, with evidence that settlers have lived here since at least 500 AD. Visitors can take advantage of nearby attractions such as Muncaster Castle or walk along one of many coastal paths with spectacular views across the Irish Sea.

This beautiful property offers an inviting ground floor with a modern kitchen and dining area and a cosy living room with plush sofas and a contemporary gas fire.

Upstairs are two spacious double bedrooms and one single bedroom, all serviced by a bright family bathroom with a bath with a shower over.

Beckermet is the perfect starting point for exploring the majestic beauty of Cumbria's Lake District. Located on the West Coast, Beckermet provides easy access to some of England's most famous fell walks, including Scafell Pike (13 miles away), England’s highest mountain at 978 metres above sea level, as well as Wastwater – voted Britain’s favourite view by BBC Countryfile viewers in 2012. Both offer challenging and rewarding hikes that will take your breath away with stunning views across rolling hills and crystal-clear waters.

For those looking for a less strenuous walk, plenty of more moderate routes around the village can be taken at a leisurely pace while still taking in all the sights and sounds of this incredible landscape.

Ground Floor

  • Kitchen - Door to the rear garden. Plenty of work surfaces, gas hob, electric oven, fridge and freezer, slow cooker, washing machine and a lovely wood dining table. The utility cupboard houses the boiler with additional space to hang wet coats or store muddy boots after a day of exploring.
  • Living Room - A gorgeous space with richly-coloured furniture and lovely decorations, comprising two comfy sofas and an armchair, a wall-mounted TV with Amazon Firestick above the modern gas fire. A good selection of games is stored in the cupboard, perfect for little and big kids! The front door leads to a small porch area and the front garden.

Upstairs

  • Thirteen carpeted steps with a handrail.
  • Bedroom 1: King-size double bedroom with dual-aspect windows overlooking the neighbouring fields and the fells beyond. Bedside tables with lamps and a large wardrobe.
  • Bedroom 2: Double bedroom with a large window overlooking the rear garden and further to the farmland. Bedside tables with lamps and built-in wardrobe.
  • Bedroom 3: Single bed with bedside table and lamp. Small built-in wardrobe and a large window overlooking the front garden.
  • Bathroom: Bath with shower over, toilet, basin and heated towel rail.

Outside

  • Nannycroft Cottage benefits from a lawn garden to the property's front and rear, joined by a gravel passageway along the side of the house.
  • The rear south-west facing garden is a great afternoon space to relax, light the BBQ and discuss the day's activities.
  • Short breaks are permitted throughout the year, subject to a minimum two-night stay (3 nights minimum on bank holiday weekends, Easter, school half terms & summer holidays and Christmas).
  • Bed linen, bath & hand towels, services, WiFi, and a starter supply of consumables, including tea, coffee, milk etc., are provided.
  • Parking off the street for one car. Additionally, unrestricted street parking is available.
  • A Travel cot & high chair are available on request.
  • Two dogs are welcome. Additional dogs may be accommodated by prior arrangements depending on their size and breed. A cost of £10.00 per dog per stay applies.

Dating back to 1208, this imposing castle has been home to the Pennington family for nearly 800 years and offers visitors a unique insight into local history. The castle sits within 77 acres of breathtaking grounds, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor exploration and activities such as falconry displays and nature trails. Inside the castle walls are beautifully preserved rooms with ancient furniture, tapestries and artwork that will delight any visitor curious about the past. With its proximity to Beckermet, Muncaster Castle is an ideal day-trip destination for those staying at Nannycroft Cottage!

The village of St Bees is located just 10 miles away from Beckermet. This picturesque coastal town is known for its stunning beach that stretches about two miles long, perfect for swimming and sunbathing in the warmer months. The town also offers plenty of opportunities to explore the local area; visitors can take a walk along the cliffs to admire breathtaking views or visit St Bees Head Nature Reserve, which boasts an abundance of wildlife and wildflowers.

The Laal Ratty train is a popular tourist attraction that runs between Ravenglass and Eskdale, just 8 miles from the village of Beckermet. This heritage railway journey takes passengers on an unforgettable trip along seven miles of the beautiful Cumbrian coastline, past ancient woodlands and rolling hills. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Irish Sea as you chug through quaint villages and admire stunning scenery around every corner.

After a busy day out exploring, if you don't fancy cooking, there are two pubs in Beckermet, The Royal Oak pub in Beckermet is a charming village inn that has welcomed guests for over 400 years. This traditional English pub serves various delicious dishes and offers a variety of local ales, ciders, wines and spirits.

Although temporarily closed, The White Mare is a traditional inn offering great food. The building dates back to the 1700s and has a rich history, having served as an inn since the 1800s.
