Kirkby Lonsdale lies at the southeast corner of Cumbria, within easy reach of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks, making it a popular location for holidays.

The Lune River passes the village and flows under Devils Bridge. This area is popular for picnics and swimming in the summer months. For cycling, the country lanes from Kirkby Lonsdale to Dent and Sedbergh is a popular circular route. To the West in the Lake District including Lake Windermere which is a little more than half an hour away.
