About the Area

Set just outside the main Lake District National Park, Melkinthorpe offers a rural retreat with farmland, rolling hills, and scenic views. The village is well placed for exploring both the Eden Valley and the southern Lake District, with towns like Penrith and Appleby close by. Its quiet lanes and open surroundings make it ideal for walking, cycling, or simply relaxing away from the busier tourist spots.

Local Attractions

While Melkinthorpe itself is peaceful, there are plenty of places to visit nearby. Lowther Castle and Gardens is just a short drive away, offering history, gardens, and walking trails. Penrith provides shops, cafés, and pubs, while Ullswater, one of the Lake District’s most beautiful lakes, is close enough for a day trip with scenic walks or boating. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the Eden Valley and surrounding fells offer a mix of easy walks and more challenging routes.
