Underley Estate

Set within close reach of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, Underley is a working rural estate in the Lune Valley that offers a mix of quirky holiday cottages, with lots to do nearby! It’s a great base for exploring the surrounding national parks and historic villages. With three well-equipped cottages, a private gym, and access to experiences like fishing, cycling, and horse riding, the estate combines comfort with the freedom to enjoy the outdoors.

The history of the Estate dates back to the 11th century, first mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Over the centuries, it passed through several prominent families, with major developments in the 19th century including the construction of Underley Hall.

There are plenty of activities to keep you busy during your stay at the Estate, either bookable with the team or through local businesses. If you are looking for a base for an active holiday, Underley is the perfect place to keep you entertained.

Herdwork, co-working space
Meeting rooms, Hot desks and private offices are available to hire during your stay, if you need a space to catch up on work while you are away. The office spaces are equipped with high-speed broadband, quiet zones and can even be booked for exclusive events.

Gym Facilities
The Forge at Underley is a private micro gym, open 24/7 and equipped with a Peloton bike, free weights, SkiErg, rower, running machine, smart TV, and music speaker. Individual sessions can be booked before/during your stay*.

Fishing
Guests at Underley Estate can enjoy exclusive fly fishing on around four miles of private water along the River Lune, known for its sea trout and salmon. Tackle hire and personalised tuition are available, making it ideal for both seasoned anglers and beginners.

Golf
Kirkby Lonsdale Golf Club offer an 18-hole parkland course, spanning over 6,500 yards and includes a driving range and virtual golf. Guests of the Estate’s Holiday Cottages are welcome to play the course at a preferential rate.

Walking
With rivers, valleys, and hills right on your doorstep, Underley Estate is perfect for walkers of all levels. Scenic routes start from the cottages, and more challenging trails like the Yorkshire Three Peaks are just a short drive away. Maps are available to borrow, and the team are happy to help you plan your route.

Clay Pigeon Shooting
Try clay pigeon shooting during your stay at Underley Estate. Tuition, gun hire, and clays can be arranged, whether you’re new to it or have done it before. Family sessions and simulated game days are also available.

Horse Riding
Local riding schools offer lessons and hacks for all levels, from beginners to experienced riders. A great way to see the area on horseback during your stay.

Cycling
Cyclists of any level can head out straight from the door, there are many cycle-friendly routes nearby. Many cafes nearby have safe bike storage and welcome passing groups!
