Tucked away in the heart of the much-loved Lake District village of Brigsteer, Garden Cottage is a beautifully refurbished country retreat offering a perfect blend of contemporary comfort and timeless Cumbrian charm. Set in a secluded, elevated fell-side position, the cottage enjoys far-reaching views across the Lyth Valley towards the Lakeland fells, making it an idyllic escape for couples, or equally suitable for small families or friends seeking a peaceful base for exploring the Lake District.

Step inside and you’re immediately welcomed by a warm, stylish interior where thoughtful design meets cosy practicality. Underfloor heating runs throughout all living spaces, creating a snug atmosphere year-round, while the wood-burning stove in the living room invites you to unwind after a day exploring the fells. From relaxed evenings with a board game to lazy mornings or sunsets watching the countryside, this is a cottage designed for slowing down and savouring the moment.

The modern-country galley kitchen opening to the dining area is a real highlight, flooded with natural light from dual-aspect windows and a skylight set into the vaulted ceiling. The exposed beam, Belfast sink, and wooden worktops, combined with high-quality appliances, create a space as attractive as it is functional, while the round dining table at the end of the kitchen offers a wonderful spot to enjoy meals with a view.

With two thoughtfully arranged bedrooms across different levels, Garden Cottage offers flexibility and privacy for guests. The king-size, en-suite bedroom on the first floor feels light and airy beneath its vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, while the lower ground floor bedroom provides a cosy, tucked-away retreat. Outside, the enclosed cottage garden is a delightful suntrap, perfect for an afternoon or evening drink surrounded by seasonal planting and uninterrupted countryside views.

About the location

Brigsteer is a quintessential Cumbrian village, renowned for its narrow lanes and traditional stone houses nestled above the Lyth Valley. Surrounded by open countryside and rolling fells, it offers a wonderfully peaceful setting while remaining close to the amenities of nearby Kendal. The village itself is popular with walkers and cyclists, with direct access to scenic routes and panoramic viewpoints.

Garden Cottage is perfectly placed for exploring both the Lake District National Park and the southern Lakeland fringes, with a choice of walks in all directions from the door – including a five-minute stroll to the local pub, The Wheatsheaf. The sweeping view across the valley towards the Lakeland fells adds an extra sense of space and light, particularly beautiful at sunrise and sunset.[MK5.1]
