About the location

Peggies Barns lies within the rural landscapes of the Lyvennete Valley and the wider Eden Valley of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and within easy reach of the Lake District and the Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The peaceful setting allows for a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings where wildlife is abundant.

Nestled within the picturesque Lyvennet Valley, Maulds Meaburn is the nearest village. This charming village boasts a rich history, an idyllic location, and a peaceful atmosphere, making it the perfect destination for a relaxing escape.

A Village Steeped in History
Maulds Meaburn's story stretches back to the 12th century when King Henry II divided the lands of Meaburn. One portion went to Sir Hugh de Morville, and the other to his sister, Maud de Veteripont. Sir Hugh's favour waned, leading the King to reclaim his land, which became known as King's Meaburn. Maud's land, however, remained hers; thus, Maulds Meaburn was born. The village has passed through various families over the centuries, adding layers to its unique heritage.

A Tranquil Escape in the Dales
Beauty lies in its serenity. The village itself is a delightful collection of traditional cottages lining the banks of the Lyvennet Beck. The surrounding landscape is a tapestry of rolling hills, lush meadows, and the ever-present charm of the Yorkshire Dales. Despite its tranquillity, Maulds Meaburn isn't isolated. The village is conveniently located just 13 miles from the bustling town of Penrith, offering a range of shops, cafes, and historical attractions. The nearby village of Appleby-in-Westmorland also provides a glimpse into the region's rich past.
