Located at the edge of Glenridding village, it's an ideal choice for couples or small families eager to immerse themselves in the stunning scenery and attractions of the Lake District.
What truly sets 4 Low Rake apart is its unbeatable location and elevated position, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Despite feeling wonderfully secluded amidst the fells, you're just a short walk (15-20 minutes) down to Glenridding village and Ullswater, and only 6 minutes to the welcoming Travellers Rest pub.
The owners have meticulously refurbished the cottage, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Inside, expect a blend of traditional features and modern design, enhanced by a great use of colour and local artwork. The comfortable lounge features a cosy log burner, a deep-cushioned sofa, and two easy chairs – perfect for relaxing while still admiring the views from the window. The modern kitchen is thoughtfully laid out with an electric oven, induction hob, washer, dryer, microwave, kettle, toaster, and a small dining table (please note: no dishwasher). Upstairs, the double bedroom at the front of the house offers the most magnificent views across the valley, and the bathroom includes a good-sized bath with an overhead shower and a heated towel rail.
Step outside to a small area with a bench, ideal for enjoying a quiet moment and surveying the view towards Birkhouse Moor. Parking for one car is conveniently located just 20 meters away. With walks starting directly from your door, you may find your car stays put! You have the choice of ascending Helvellyn via the main path that passes the cottage (giving you a head start!), or heading down to Ullswater Lake for a picturesque lakeshore walk or a memorable trip on a Ullswater Steamer – surely one of the UK's most scenic boat rides.

- Kitchen - plenty of workspace and storage cupboards, electric oven , induction hob, fridge-freezer, washing machine, dryer, microwave, kettle, toaster, plenty of pots, pans, crockery etc. Note, no dishwasher.
- In the kitchen, there is a small dining table with stools.
- Lounge with a two seater sofa and two easy chairs, logburner, coffee table, children's games, books and maps.

- You'll find a good 4G mobile signal outdoors. Due to the thick walls, the signal might be limited indoors.
- The JVC 32" Smart TV offers streaming services, but you will require your own accounts to use them. There is no terrestrial TV reception at the property. This is an Amazon TV, please log in using your own accounts, iPlayer, ITV, Channel4, etc., are available through the TV's apps.

- Dedicated parking for one car is available in a space about 20 meters away. Please note there's no other local parking available, so do not arrive in multiple cars. If you have more than one car, the village car park is your only other option.
- Please bring your own travel cot and high chair if you need them, as these are not provided.
- Short breaks are available for bookings made within 35 days of arrival. Otherwise, only weekly stays from Friday to Friday are offered.
- We recommend bringing a torch as there is no street lighting in the area.
- Charging electric vehicles at the property is strictly prohibited. There's a public EV charger located in Glenridding.
- Smoking and vaping are not allowed inside the property.
About the location
The fabulous fells all around Ullswater are yours to enjoy without needing to use your car. There are several popular fell walks you can start from the cottage, including the Striding Edge path up to Helvellyn, Place Fell, High Street, Glenridding Dodd, the Helvellyn range, Fairfield and St Sunday Crag, so you'll be spoilt for choice! The Ullswater Steamers ply the entire length of Ullswater, with the main departure points being at Glenridding and Pooley Bridge. The steamers also stop at Howtown to allow for a lakeshore walk back to Glenridding, or vice versa. There is also a seasonal service stopping at Aira Force, one of the Lake District's most impressive waterfalls, with lovely woodland walks through the National Trust land between the lake and the waterfall.
The famous village of Ambleside is a 30-minute drive away, over the dramatic Kirkstone Pass, where you have a variety of pubs, restaurants and cafes. At the northern tip of Windermere Lake, you can again hop on board one of the Windermere Lake Cruises to Bowness Pier, or further to Lakeside at the southern tip, where you'll find the Lakeside Aquarium and Haverthwaite Steam Railway.
