Chapel Farm Nook

Orton
Sleeps 2
Bedrooms 1
Dog Friendly

Tucked away on a traditional working beef and sheep farm, Chapel Farm Nook offers an utterly charming countryside retreat in one of the North of England's most quietly spectacular corners.

Fully refurbished to a high standard throughout, this cosy yet surprisingly spacious Nook is ideally suited to couples seeking a peaceful escape, or a small family looking to introduce the little ones to proper rural life. With the welcoming hosts Sion and Hannah just next door, you'll have all the independence of a self-catering break with the reassurance of knowledgeable local support close at hand.

Step inside and you'll find a property that punches well above its size. The spacious kitchen flows naturally into a generously proportioned living and dining room where a superb wood-burning stove takes centre stage — the perfect companion on a chilly Cumbrian evening. Settle into the two-seat sofa with a fresh cafetière coffee and let the stresses of everyday life simply dissolve. When the weather cooperates, throw open the glass door and step out onto an enormous enclosed lawn garden, ideal for alfresco dining or simply soaking up the peace of the surrounding countryside.

The location is genuinely exceptional for those with adventure in mind. Whether you're lacing up your boots for a stretch of the famous Coast to Coast route, saddling up for a long cycle through the Eden Valley, or simply plotting day trips into the Lake District and the Westmorland and Yorkshire Dales, Chapel Farm Nook places you at the heart of some of England's most breathtaking landscapes. And when you return, the village of Orton — barely a mile away — has everything you need: a welcoming pub, the legendary Kennedy's chocolate factory and coffee shop, a café serving famously good all-day breakfasts, and a village store and post office stocked with local produce and everyday essentials.

This is countryside hospitality at its most genuine — real farm, real hosts, real landscape. Whether you're here for the walking, the cycling, the fresh air, or simply to do very little at all, Chapel Farm Nook delivers an experience that's as restorative as it is memorable.

About the location

Chapel Farm Nook sits within the wonderfully unspoilt Westmorland Dales, a landscape of broad horizons, ancient market towns, and quiet valleys that feels a world away from the pressures of modern life — yet remains remarkably well-connected for exploring some of the North of England's most celebrated destinations. Less than a mile from the front gate lies the village of Orton, a gem of a settlement with real community spirit and genuine amenities, including a pub, café, chocolate shop, and village store. In the summer months, particularly, the village hums with the energy of walkers passing through on the iconic Coast to Coast long-distance route.

The surrounding area offers a wealth of walking and cycling opportunities, with the Eden Valley providing some of the most picturesque and relatively undiscovered riding and rambling in the North. Further afield, the Yorkshire Dales to the east and the Lake District National Park to the west offer world-class scenery and a near-endless variety of routes and attractions, from the summit of Helvellyn to the shores of Ullswater — all comfortably within reach for a day trip.

History, culture, and market town charm are also close at hand. The ancient town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, famous for its annual horse fair and its castle, lies just a short drive away, whilst Kirkby Stephen offers independent shops, excellent cafés, and a beautifully preserved market square. For those wishing to venture further, the Lake District towns of Kendal and Penrith are easily accessible and offer a broader range of shops, restaurants, and leisure attractions.
