Rivendell Holiday Cottage is situated in the picturesque rural village of Bassenthwaite, 7-miles away from the bustling town of Keswick and Derwent Water.

Formally, a barn belonging to the adjacent farm, the property now offers a spacious living room, open plan kitchen and dining area, three spacious bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room.

This Lake District cottage is a great choice for families or friends to enjoy a relaxing holiday in a peaceful location, perhaps a BBQ in the adjacent enclosed garden complete with a summer house.

Bassenthwaite Village itself is gorgeous, with tree-lined lanes, a mixture of residential properties intertwined with patches of farmland with grazing livestock, and overlooked by the majestic Skiddaw fell. The village benefits from a local pub called The Sun Inn with a large beer garden, and a gentle stream, home to ducks.

Ground Floor:

  • Living room: With wood burner and 31" Freesat TV, a selection of books, games and DVDs, and fab views of Skiddaw and the village green.
  • Kitchen/dining room: With electric oven, induction hob, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge and dishwasher. Dining table for six guests.
  • Utility room: With freezer and washing machine and a rear door with a pathway leading t the front of the property.
First Floor:
  • Accessed by carpeted stairs, with a secure handrail.
  • Bedroom 1: With double bed, a feature fireplace, triple aspect windows with views of Skiddaw and the village green.
  • Bedroom 2: With double bed, views of the village lane.
  • Bedroom 3: With twin beds., view of the village lane.
  • Bathroom: With a bath, toilet, pedestal basin, and heated towel rail.
  • Shower room: With shower cubicle, a toilet, basin and a heated towel rail.

  • Short breaks are available throughout the year, with arrivals on a Monday or a Friday. Weekly Stays - Friday to Friday.
  • A travel cot, high chair and a stair gate are available on request.
  • Two well-behaved dogs are welcome, free of charge.
  • The Aga in the kitchen is decorative only and it is no longer in use.
  • Reserved parking for one car. Additional unrestricted parking on the village lane.
  • Secure bicycle storage is available.
  • Superfast broadband is available, suitable for streaming, or for guests needing to carry out a bit of work whilst away.

About the location

Bassenthwaite Village benefits from numerous walks, many starting from the house, including the famous Skiddaw! Locally, is Dodd wood, with a choice of four walking trails that will take you deep into the woodland, where red squirrels are a common sight, and to the top of Dodd Summit for views across the fells and Bassenthwaite Lake - the only true lake in the Lake District.

Two miles away from the cottage, at the tip of Bassenthwaite Lake, is the popular Lakes Distillery, where Lakes Gin, Lakes Single Malt Whisky and Lakes Vodka are made. Tours and tasting sessions are available for the adults. For more family-friendly attractions, the Lake District Wildlife Park at Armathwaite is next-door to the distillery.

The popular tourist town of Keswick, with a theatre, cinema, twice-weekly market and many restaurants, cafes and pubs is just 7-miles away. 15 minutes in the other direction is Cockermouth, the oldest town in Cumbria, where you will find Wordsworth House and Garden (National Trust), Jennings Brewery and a wide range of independent shops.

The is a bus stop in the village centre with Saturday runs to Keswick, Caldbeck and Carlisle. Alternatively, the bus stop on the main A591 (0.2-miles from the cottage) has more frequent routes to the same villages, operating 7-days a week.
