Keswick is an idyllic market town in the Lake District. It has been a popular holiday destination since the 18th century, and it’s easy to see why. Its beauty was the inspiration for the great Lakes Poets Samuel Tayler Coleridge, Robert Southey and William Wordsworth.
History and Events The town is steeped in history and culture, hosting a variety of events throughout the year. There is something for everyone, from the Film Festival and half marathon to jazz events, the Mountain Festival, and the Beer Festival.
Walking and Views Keswick is surrounded by mountains and fells, with beautiful views available from Castlehead, a wooded hill just a short walk from the town centre. From the top, visitors are rewarded with panoramic vistas and a dial showing the directions and names of 30 surrounding fells.
Lakes and Scenic Spots Just south of Keswick lies Derwentwater, offering stunning views across the lake to Catbells and Maiden Moor. Nearby attractions include Ashness Bridge and Surprise View, two of the most photographed spots in the Lake District. For history enthusiasts, the Castlerigg Stone Circle, an English Heritage site dating back 4,000–5,000 years, is also nearby.
Getting There Keswick is easily accessible via the M6 or the A591, passing through some of the most scenic parts of the Lake District. The town is also well connected by bus, with services to Carlisle, Kendal, Lancaster, Penrith, and Windermere.
