Langdale Cottage
Tucked into the heart of the Langdale Valley, in the small fellside village of Chapel Stile, Langdale Cottage is a light and bright bolthole for up to four guests. Step out into the garden, and you're greeted by the majestic Langdale Pikes rising at the head of the valley — while indoors, the lounge and windows look out across the valley to the gentler slopes of Lingmoor Fell. This is the Lake District as postcards promise it: crag, beck and fellside stitched together into one glorious, ever-changing view.
Inside, the cottage opens up beautifully; the open-plan living and dining area, crowned with a double-height vaulted ceiling, floods with natural light, while a generous sliding door and windows frame views across to Lingmoor Fell. Gather the family around the dining table, or settle in with a film on the Smart TV — Netflix is included, so there's no need to bring your own login. It's a space made for slowing down.
Langdale Cottage is perfectly suited to families with children, thanks to its cosy twin room tucked beneath the eaves, or to couples seeking a peaceful escape from it all. By day, the valley is a walker's paradise, with gentle valley-bottom strolls and some of the Lake District's most exhilarating high-fell routes right on the doorstep. By evening, the choice is simple: step into the garden to catch the Langdale Pikes glowing in the fading light, or wander down to one of the valley's excellent pubs — Wainwright's Inn (0.5 miles) or the Britannia Inn at Elterwater (1 mile), or, for more choice a little further up the valley, Stickle Barn at New Dungeon Ghyll (1.7 miles) or The Old Dungeon Ghyll (2.5 miles) — for a well-earned pint and a hearty meal.
Whatever you've forgotten to pack, Chapel Stile's well-stocked village shop is just a few minutes away, so you can spend less time worrying about supplies and more time soaking up one of England's most beautiful valleys.

Take a closer look at Langdale Cottage
- Kitchen: Also the main entrance to the cottage, fitted with a modern Lamona electric halogen hob, oven, and microwave; separate fridge and freezer; dishwasher; kettle; four-slice toaster; and cafetière. Sink with mixer tap, plentiful cupboards and work surfaces, and a well-equipped range of crockery, cutlery and cookware. Coat hooks and a boot tray behind the door are handy after a day on the fells.
- Living/Dining Area: Open-plan space with a double-height vaulted ceiling for a bright, airy feel. Large sliding door and windows with views across the valley to Lingmoor Fell. Three-seat sofa and armchair, 28" LG Smart TV with soundbar and Netflix included, electric log-fire-effect heater, and an extendable dining table with four chairs. An electrically operated roof window with a fitted blind helps regulate temperature and lets in fresh air.
- Bedroom 1: 4'6" double bed with bedside shelves and a wardrobe.
- Shower Room: Walk-in shower cubicle with electric shower, heated towel rail, toilet and basin with an illuminated, Bluetooth-connected mirror for music while you get ready.
- Outside Front Garden: Large, unfenced lawn shared with neighbouring properties, offering uninterrupted views of the Langdale Pikes, plentiful birdlife at the feeders, and a bench for sitting out and taking it all in.
- Bedroom 2: Accessed via 11 wooden steps with a handrail. Two 2'6" single beds with drawers for clothing storage. Best suited to children.
- Langdale Cottages is now available to book for arrivals starting in January 2027.
- WiFi and 5G mobile reception are available.
- Netflix is included on the Smart TV; other streaming services will require your own login details.
- Free parking for one car is provided.
- Central heating throughout, plus an electric log-fire-effect heater and an additional oil radiator if needed.
- Up to two dogs are permitted at an additional charge of £10.00 per dog, per stay. Please note that the garden is unfenced and shared with neighbouring properties; dogs are not permitted on the furniture, and a doggy wash bowl is provided for muddy paws after walks.
- What's provided: bed linen, towels, utilities and services, plus a starter supply of essentials.
- Smoking, including vapes and e-cigarettes, is not permitted indoors.
- Please note the front garden is unfenced and not suitable for children or pets to be left unsupervised.
- The garden bench belongs to the cottage; the second bench belongs to the neighbouring property and is not available for guest use.

About the location
Walkers are thoroughly spoiled for choice. Gentle valley-floor paths wind alongside the Great Langdale Beck, while more ambitious routes climb steeply onto the Langdale Pikes and beyond, rewarding effort with some of the finest fell views in the Lake District. For those who'd rather not drive, the 516 bus service runs daily between Ambleside and Old Dungeon Ghyll, calling at Skelwith Bridge, Elterwater and both New and Old Dungeon Ghyll, making it easy to start a walk at one point and finish at another without worrying about parking.
Beyond the valley itself, the wider Lake District unfolds within easy reach. Ambleside, with its shops, restaurants and lake steamers on Windermere, is a short drive or bus ride away, while the picturesque village of Grasmere, once home to poet William Wordsworth, is also easily accessible. Whether your idea of a perfect day is a strenuous fell walk, a relaxed pub lunch, or simply pottering between villages, this corner of the Lake District delivers it all.
