Furness Area

The fine market town of Ulverston is in the centre of the Furness peninsula, with a web of cobbled streets, old buildings and it is also the starting point of the 70 mile Cumbrian Way.

Ulverston offers an excellent choice of holiday cottages, glamping, lodges & apartments, ideal for family holidays and short breaks.

Visitors will enjoy the great choice of pubs, restaurants and attractions including the Laurel and Hardy Museum. Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel. It is also known for the world’s shortest, widest and deepest canal – the Ulverston canal was completed in 1796 with the purpose of transporting wares from the ships on Morecambe Bay, one and a half miles into the town.

Nearby is Conishead Priory, a splendid Victorian gothic mansion, now a Buddhist centre, which provides historical tours at the weekends. The month of November hosts the well-known Dickensian Festival where residents and people from across the land, dress in traditional dress to celebrate.

Ulverston and the surrounding villages are both beautiful and less busy than the central lakes, but still within easy reach.
